"Troponins of the Kidney" - Unique Markers of Renal Injury
Argutus' technology has facilitated the development of immunoassays for biomarkers which have unique tubular specificity in the Human and Rat kidney: Similarly to the Troponins of the heart, these proteins leak into urine when tubular cells are physically damaged. Argutus' new 'Acute Kidney Injury' test composes of three assays to detect injury in the proximal and distal tubules and in the collecting duct.
These are not 'response proteins' e.g. KIM-1 or NGAL, but reflect renal injury. They will also reflect recovery.
As no other commercial biomarker assays exist for distal tubule or collecting duct, the use of these assays in clinical studies constantly reveals new facts about injury and are now used by many pharmaceutical companies and CROs in safety monitoring of Phase I and II trials.
