Kidney Transplantation

Summary
  • Urinary GST levels change in advance of serum creatinine.
  • Uncomplicated transplantation is acompanied by rapidly falling levels of GSTs.
  • Acute tubular necrosis is associated with elevated levels of both αGST and πGST.
  • Proximal tubular toxicity was associated with elevation of αGST.
  • Rejection is associated with elevated πGST.
  • Urinary collagen IV may be a biomarker for chronic rejection.

Hammad, F.T., Davis, G., Zhang, X.Y. and Wheatley AM. (2001). Transplantation. 71(5) 619-27.

  • 14 Rat kidneys exposed to cold ischemia with endothelin antagonists, 6 controls.
  • Post operative urinary levels of αGST and GSTYb1 were lower in those rats which received kidneys treated with ETA antagonists.
  • The postoperative urinary GST levels were lowest in rats that survived longest.
