Trypsinogen Activation Peptide (TAP) is produced by the intra-pancreatic activation of the proteolytic enzyme trypsin. Its presence in body fluids is a highly sensitive and specific biomarker for severe, acute pancreatitis. TAP has been shown to be a valuable biomarker of severe pancreatitis in clinical, toxicological, surgical and transplantation studies. The very high sensitive and specificity of TAP makes it an especially powerful test for excluding pancreatic injury in many species. The availability for matching assays for many animal species e.g. mice, rats, dogs and pigs makes the TAP specially useful for research. Only a small urine or plasma sample is required.
