Urinary Collagen IV

Collagen IV and Renal Injury

Urinary collagen IV has proven to be an extremely useful test for studying renal fibrosis, especially diabetic nephropathy. Urinary collagen IV levels increase in advance of urinary albumin or serum creatinine.

Collagen IV is localised in the glomerulus and urinary levels are increased in fibrotic renal disease. Urinary collagen IV is a sensitive and specific biomarker for diabetic nephropathy. High levels of urinary collagen IV predict progressive diabetic nephropathy and falling levels are found in response to successful therapy. Collagen IV has potential in other conditions where renal fibrosis is found, e.g. chronic transplant nephropathy.

Argutus Medical Urinary Collagen IV EIA

The Argutus Medical Urinary Collagen IV EIA is a quantitative enzyme immunoassay for the assay of collagen IV in human urine. For the assay of collagen IV in other tissue fluids and species, contact Argutus Medical for advice.

The test procedure is based on the addition of sample, anti collagen IV enzyme conjugate and substrate to microassay wells coated with anti collagen IV. The resultant colour intensity is proportional to the amount of collagen IV present in the sample. The assay range is 0-50µg/L, and it is an overnight assay.
